I consider myself an editor first, but have experience with technical writing and design as well. I am currently an Editorial Assistant at the MSU Press, where I work primarily with print materials, including books and journals. As such, I am most familiar with the Chicago Manual of Style, but can easily switch between different style guides as needed.
My editorial philosophy tends to prioritize adherence to style guides over creative license, and I enjoy the challenge of finding just the right touch to ensure that sentences flow smoothly into one another without compromising the intentions and feelings of the author. I believe there is always a way to meet the needs of both the publisher and the author.
I am proficient with many essential editorial programs and software, including SAI for Word, advanced features of Word, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Open Journal Systems (OJS) for managing online publications. I also have a fast learning curve, and can become proficient with a new application in a matter of days.
Both inside and outside the workplace, I turn a critical eye to all things in the hopes of learning more about the world and the patterns that make it up. It’s a task that can never be truly complete, but one that I relish and that I’m happy to undertake.
